More pets go missing during the 4th of July week than at any other time of year.

Keep Them Inside - Planning ahead will help reduce your pet's anxiety and help them stay safe.  Keep your pets indoors during fireworks to prevent them from getting scared & running away or getting injured. If they need to go out during this time, make sure they are on a leash, even if in the backyard. Take your dog out for a bathroom break before it gets dark out, since most fireworks will start at dusk.

Current ID - Ensure your pet is always wearing a collar with a tag and/or microchipping, that has your current contact info as this willassist with their fast return to you if they accidentally get loose or run off.

Create a Safe Haven - Designate a comfortable space where your pet feels secure.  Fill this area with their favorite toys, blankets, and perhaps an item of your clothing with your scent.  Ensure the space is away from windows to minimize the noise and light from fireworks.  Background noise from the tv, radio or white noise can help block-out the boom of the fireworks.

Playtime - Playing with your pets and their favorite toys or giving them toys like a Kong ball stuffed with treats and other puzzle toys can provide a great distraction.

Stay Calm and Composed - Pets often look to their owners for cues on how to react. Staying calm and composed can help your pet feel more secure.  Avoid making a fuss about the fireworks, as that can reinforce their anxiety.

Use Anxiety Aids - There are several products designed to help reduce anxiety in pets. Thundershirts or anxiety wraps apply gentle pressure, which can be calming. additionally, you can consult your vet about pheromone diffusers, calming supplements or drops that may be beneficial.

Take the neccessary steps to keep these Furbaby members of your family safe and happy!

**Florida law allows fireworks Only on New Years Eve, New Years Day and July 4th. Outside of these Holidays, fireworks are only allowed to be used for agricultural uses, such as scaring birds.
